This is the first article in a new blog series centred on the great Datta Tradition. I will aim to write something for this blog at least every week or two weeks. Stay tuned!
In order to understand what the Datta Tradition is, we first need to understand what a real spiritual tradition is in general.
A real spiritual tradition is a container and anchor for the higher dimensions of consciousness on Earth.
What are the higher dimensions of consciousness? These are the dimensions of experience that are the closest to the nature of the absolute reality, which is all-pervasive, non-dual, non-relative, and completely unfathomable to the ordinary mind. Because the absolute reality is that which pervades everything and is the actual inner reality of everything—all universes, worlds, realms, and animate and inanimate beings—its nature is naturally unity, harmony and unconditional love.
It is important note here that even beings who do not express themselves through unconditional love, are also none other than the absolute reality. There is nothing that is not a manifestation of the absolute reality. However, different facets, or faces, of the absolute reality’s manifestation express it in different ways. When we talk about ‘high frequencies of consciousness’, we are talking about phenomena that actually rediscover themselves as the absolute reality. These beings, for example, in the form sages or spiritual masters in human bodies, have discovered, and then have re-identified themselves with the absolute reality as the essence of their own being. They no longer identify solely with their bodies or personalities. Rather, they see their bodies and personalities as vessels to express the higher frequencies of consciousness on Earth.
So, in essence, what a real spiritual tradition is is simply the expression of the higher frequencies of consciousness on Earth. That means that whenever a being re-establishes themselves in such high frequencies, they automatically become a representative of the tradition. They may even become a ‘mouthpiece of the tradition’—that is, one who goes out into the world and speaks the truth of the tradition, which are the natural truths of dharma, in a language that is relevant to the people of the time.
The Datta Tradition is simply a certain subset of the overall grand tradition of high frequency consciousness of Earth. It is characterised by the manifestation of powerful spiritual masters who incarnate on Earth solely for the purpose of preserving dharma and annihilating adharma.
Over time, the tradition is weaved from the threads of these great masters that appears one after another in sequence. Each master appears in a totally unique way, perhaps completely different from his predecessors, and in a mode that is relevant to the times that he is living in.
Examples of such masters within the stream of the Datta Tradition include Lord Dattatreya himself, Shripada Shri Vallabha, Narasimha Saraswati, Swami Samarth of Akkalkot, Shirdi Sai Baba, and Brahmarishi Mohanji.
So, without masters, there is no living tradition. The tradition is held together by masters who hold the transmission of the higher frequencies of consciousness within their own being. For as long as they live, they effortlessly emanate the transmission from themselves like a celestial fragrance through their physical presence, actions and written and spoken words.
Really, spiritual masters are perfect embodiment of the tradition, which means that they are perfect embodiments of the higher frequencies of consciousness. The more one refines themselves and connects to the silent, peaceful essence of existence within, the more one is able to become a conduit for the power of the tradition to work through.
The point of perfection in being a conduit for the tradition is reached when the ordinary, apparently separate personality is thoroughly effaced and outshined by the higher frequencies of consciousness, which do not experience themselves as any form of separate embodied being at all. The awareness of such a being soars above the level of individual unidimensionality and attains to the level of multidimensional consciousness. The experience of such a being will be that they are simply the absolute reality that is operating, for a period of time, within a physical vessel. Thus such a being containers all masters within themselves and all spiritual traditions within themselves. It is such great beings, avadhutas, which prop up and enliven the tradition of liberation from generation to generation.
So, one of the key points to take home from this article is that just because something is labelled as a spiritual tradition or a religion, it doesn’t mean that it still has the power of the high frequencies of consciousness operating through it. For that to happen, you need a master—somebody who has dissolved the karmic personality that was associated with their body, and become absorbed fully into the higher dimensions of consciousness, which allows them to become a flawless vessel for the power, knowledge and grace of the tradition to flow through.
The purpose of such vessels is simply the preservation of dharma. Avatars happens for this reason alone. They come to promote non-violence, kindness, unconditional love, selfless service, freedom, and the reality of the multidimensional consciousness that is the highest potential of us all.
For those who are subtle and sensitive, when you meet such a being, you will know, you will recognise them. Their apparent individuality is only a camouflage. In reality, they are a universe—they are all universes. These are the great representatives of the living spiritual traditions. These are the perfect masters. This article is dedicated to them. I bow to them.
Jai Gurudeva Datta!
